Certified Massage Doula
Prenatal Massage
(massage for the expectant mother)
I specialize in prenatal massage because of the many benefits it
offers my clients. These benefits include:
- Drug-free pain relief
- Helps the mother adjust to the changes in her body
- Reduction of swelling
- Eases sore muscles and stressed joints
- Relaxes the mother, emotionally and physically
- Nurtures the baby through positive changes in the mother
What to expect
During your first session, we will visit for a while and fill out some paperwork.
Be sure to bring all your contact information, including physicians, midwives, birth partners, and
emergency numbers. Also, bring information about any prescriptions, vitamins, or herbs you are
taking. I will ask you how you are feeling, where there is discomfort in your body, and also some
questions about your medical history.
To prepare for the massage
You will be left in the massage room to undress as much as you are comfortable. You do not
have to remove any clothing. Some of the massage is more effective if you are unclothed.
If you need help, I will assist you onto the table. Otherwise, you will get onto the table and lay on
your side, covered with a sheet. I will come into the room and place pillows to make you
comfortable.
I will massage the parts of your neck, shoulders, back, hips, and legs that I can reach on that
side. We may also do some gentle stretching. Then I will assist you in turning onto the other
side, and we'll repeat the massage.
You can remain on the table relaxing for some time after the massage is complete. Then I will
assist you (if needed) to get off the table so you can get dressed.
The first session usually lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Most sessions after that are about 1 1/2
hours. Each session costs $100. Discounts may be given to clients who sign up for doula
services.
As a Certified Massage Doula, I assist mothers through labor and the time immediately after birth. I am employed by
you, rather than by a doctor or hospital. I provide emotional, physical, and informational support for you and your
partner throughout the birth experience. I also provide about 2 hours of pre-birth training including prenatal exercises,
birth options, labor and birth positions, and your rights. This training is required for the mother and her partner.
Benefits* of having a doula include:
- Decreased medication and increased confidence
- Less chance of a forceps delivery or C-section
- Decreased anxiety and fatigue during labor
- A generally happier, healthier baby and family 6 weeks later.

What to expect:
You will call me as soon as you know that you are in labor. When you are ready to go
to the hospital (or when your midwife arrives for a home birth), call me again and I will
meet you at the birth place.
Once there, I will assist you in all the ways that I am trained so that you can have the
best birth experience possible. In addition to regular doula services, this will include
massage techniques for relaxing you and helping the baby move down the birth canal.
After you have your baby, I will stay until you are settled. This is usually 1 or 2 hours
after your baby is born. I will massage your tired muscles, help you take photos, and
provide comfort as I can.
Costs for doula services usually range between $300 and $400, depending on
mileage. This includes the prenatal training.
